FRASER, F. Jayne – 65, of Halifax passed away December 4, 2011 at the QEII - Halifax Infirmary, after a courageous battle with chronic lung disease. Born in New Glasgow, Jayne was a daughter of the late Mima Day MacRae and the late Dr. Fred Day. Jayne lived life with an unquestionable joie de vivre that was centered around her love of family, career, adventure, independence, nature, spirituality, music and just plain living in the moment. She graduated from New Glasgow High School and went on to study nursing, graduating from the Victoria General Hospital School of Nursing in Halifax with her R.N. (Class of 66B). Upon graduation, Jayne started a career in nursing that took her to Kingston, ON to Kentville, NS to Halifax, NS to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to Bradenton, Florida, to Edmonton, AB and finally back to Nova Scotia. A deeply spiritual person, Jayne found ways to connect with her friends, family and clients in a way that transcended typical communication methods. She was able to blend her love for genealogy, nursing care, astrology and personal spirituality into a second career, touching countless lives in the process. Nature, and in particular the ocean and its creatures, were very important to her life and own personal spirituality. She chose to live near the ocean for much of her life, and experienced deep water scuba diving in the Red Sea, sailing in the Gulf of Mexico, volunteer efforts to assist marine animals in distress at the Mote Marine Laboratory in Florida, and countless hours listening to ocean waves wherever they would crash. Jayne was an award winning musician that inspired those around her – most dramatically her two children – to find a life-long love of music. Jayne was very active in her youth, participating in groups such as CGIT, was a volunteer youth leader, and competed in many music festivals throughout the region. Jayne was an inspiring parent, grandparent, sister, teacher and friend, and could always be counted on for perhaps one of her best skills: the art of listening. She is survived by her sons Craig (Miriam) and Mark (Mylene) Fraser and four wonderful grandchildren: Jessica & Madison and Cole & Paige; brother Bob (Carol) Day and sister Jeannie (Murray) Johnston; niece Jennifer (Randy) Breen, and nephews Jason (Sandra) Day, Glenn (Denise) Swan and Kevin (Chris) Swan; and the father of her two sons, Victor Fraser. Cremation has taken place and details of a memorial service will be communicated at a future date. Donations in Jayne’s memory may be made to the QEII Foundation (Halifax, Nova Scotia).
